Nebraska divorce, online and in court

Can you file for divorce online in Nebraska?

You can complete the DivorceQuik questionnaire and receive your divorce forms online. Filing a Nebraska divorce is not entirely online: you still file with the district court, pay the court fee, serve your spouse or file their signed Voluntary Appearance, and complete any hearing the court requires.

Basic eligibility

  • • Generally, one spouse must have lived in Nebraska for one year before filing.
  • • This service is designed for spouses who agree on the divorce terms.
  • • The court, not DivorceQuik, decides whether your filing can proceed.

What happens after your forms are ready

  • • Print, sign, and file the required documents with your district court.
  • • Pay the $200 filing fee listed on the official fee schedule effective July 1, 2026.
  • • After service is perfected, the 60-day waiting period begins; with a signed Voluntary Appearance, Judicial Branch instructions say to start counting the day after it is filed with the court.

Common questions

Before you start.

Can I complete my Nebraska divorce entirely online?

You can complete the DivorceQuik questionnaire and receive your court-ready Nebraska divorce forms online, without an office visit or attorney consultation. Court steps are still required: file with your Nebraska district court, pay the filing fee, serve your spouse or file a signed Voluntary Appearance, and complete any hearing or other step the court requires.

Is DivorceQuik a law firm?

No. DivorceQuik is a self-help document-preparation service. Using DivorceQuik does not create an attorney-client relationship and we do not provide legal advice on your specific situation. We prepare Nebraska court-ready forms based on the information you provide.

What is an uncontested divorce?

An uncontested divorce is one where both spouses agree on all major terms — property division, debts, custody and parenting time if there are children, and child support. If you and your spouse cannot agree, you have a contested divorce, which requires an attorney.

Do I have to live in Nebraska to use DivorceQuik?

Yes. Nebraska requires at least one spouse to have lived in the state for one year before filing. DivorceQuik only supports Nebraska divorces.

How long does a Nebraska divorce take?

Nebraska law requires a 60-day waiting period after service is perfected. If you use a signed Voluntary Appearance, Nebraska Judicial Branch simple-divorce instructions say to start counting the day after it is filed with the court. Total time also depends on your county's court calendar and any required hearing.

What if my spouse won't agree to sign?

If your spouse won't sign a Voluntary Appearance or won't agree to settlement terms, the divorce becomes contested and you'll need an attorney. DivorceQuik only supports uncontested cases.

What's the total cost including court fees?

Without children: $750 for DivorceQuik, plus the $200 statewide filing fee and about $10–$25 in notary and certified copies — roughly $960–$975 total. With children: $1,500 for DivorceQuik, the same court costs, and a $40–$80 parenting class — roughly $1,750–$1,805 total. The $200 figure is listed on the official Nebraska Judicial Branch fee schedule effective July 1, 2026.

Can my spouse and I share one DivorceQuik packet?

Yes. One packet covers both spouses. Only the filing spouse pays the court's $200 filing fee.

What if I get stuck during the questionnaire?

Email our support team. We can answer questions about how to complete the form, though we cannot give legal advice about what to put in it.
